Local Unemployment Numbers In March Hold Fairly Steady

(Des Moines)– Iowa Workforce Development was out Tuesday with the latest jobless figures for the month of March. The statistics show the state’s unemployment rate rose slightly last month to 6.1%…compared to February’s revised rate of 6.0%. The national unemployment rate for March edged down to 8.8 percent from 8.9% in February.

Locally, unemployment rates saw very little change between March and February. Clay county’s rate was unchanged at 6.2%; Dickinson county saw a slight decrease…going from 8.3% in February to 8.2% in March; Emmet county also posted a slight decline…going from 6.7% in February to 6.5% in March. O’Brien county’s rate remained steady…at 5.6% while Osceola county saw a slight increase…going from 6.3% in February to 6.4% in March. Palo Alto county saw it’s jobless rate fall from 5.6% in February to 5.4% in March.
