(Spencer)– A local paramedic has helped write a textbook for a course on Advanced Medical Life Support.
Jeff Messerole has been a paramedic more than 30 years. He has instructed the course since its inception in 2001 and became a regional coordinator for it in 14 states.
A couple years ago Messerole was named to the National AMLS Committee to oversee a complete rewrite of the program, which has become a national standard for instructing medical personnel in the assessment of medical conditions. The course is owned by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians and endorsed by the National Association of EMS Physicians. It’s taught thoughout the U.S. and 20 different countries.
Messerole and a team of health educators have spent the past two years writing a text book for the course. Messerole wrote a chapter on chest pain and developed several presentations and scenarios used in the course.
