Dickinson Supervisors Discuss Request For LMI Funding

November 22, 2014

(Superior)– Whether or not a community should be allowed to tap into Dickinson county’s Low To Moderate Income funding stream was a topic of discussion at Tuesday’s board of supervisors meeting.

The city of Superior was requesting to tap into the county’s LMI funding to help foot the cost of a sanitary sewer system the city is putting in. Without that funding, city officials say citizens of the town, who already are paying for a portion of the project, would be forced to come up with even more money for it.

But Supervisor Chairman David Gottsche questioned whether it would be appropriate for the county to allow the city to tap into the LMI stream. Supervisors Mardi Allen and Pam Jordan argued the project fits into the realm of LMI funding, saying the majority of those that would benefit from it fall into the low to moderate income category.

They add the city is being mandated by state and federal authorities to put in the sanitary sewer system.

Jordan, Allen and Bill Leopold voted in favor of a motion allowing the city to tap into the county’s LMI source, while Gottsche cast the lone no vote. Supervisor Paul Johnson wasn’t present for Tuesday’s meeting.
