(Sioux City)– Officials with a regional blood supplier say flooding on the Missouri River is having a severe impact on local blood supplies.
Christine Hayes, Vice President of Communications for the LifeServe Blood Center…formerly the Siouxland Community Blood Bank…says typically they keep a three to five day supply of all blood types on hand. But she says the cancellation of some mobile blood drives and low donor turnout has caused the supply to dwindle to levels of less than a one-day supply of some blood types.
Hayes says they’re asking people in areas not directly affected by flooding to donate blood.
Locally, the LifeServe Blood Center will be holding blood drives Friday, July 1st from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum in Arnolds Park and Tuesday, July 5th from 12:30 until 5:30 p.m. at the Dickinson County Community building in Spirit Lake.
Walk-ins are welcome. Donation appointments may be made by calling 800-287-4903 or online at www.lifeservebloodcenter.org.
