(Sioux City)– An Estherville woman has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison on a drug charge.
50-year-old Cynthia Koons was sentenced today (Tues.) in U.S. District Court in Sioux City after pleading guilty in March of this year to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
Koons was previously convicted of two felony drug offenses: possession of marijuana with intent to deliver in September 2001 and failure to affix a drug tax stamp in August 1998.
At the plea hearing Koons admitted she conspired to distribute more than six pounds of methamphetamine from 2002 through April 2010 in Emmet, Dickinson and Cherokee counties.
In addition to the prison sentence, Koons must also serve a 10-year term of supervised release following the prison term.
Koons is being held in the custody of a U.S. Marshal pending transport to a federal prison.
The case investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Iowa State Patrol, Cherokee, Dennison, Estherville and Spirit Lake Police Departments, and the Emmet, Palo Alto, Dickinson, Crawford and Clay County Sheriff’s Offices.
