Woman Sentenced To Federal Charges For Distributing Crack Cocaine In NW Iowa

November 22, 2014

(Sioux City)– A Kansas City woman has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for distributing crack cocaine in northwest Iowa.

25-year-old Shanta Brown was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court after pleading guilty in November of last year to one count of conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and two counts of distributing and aiding and abetting the distribution of crack cocaine.

At this week’s plea hearing, Brown admitted she conspired to distribute more than 200 grams of crack cocaine in the Sioux City and Hartley areas from October 2009 through March 2010.

In addition to the prison sentence, Brown must also serve eight years of supervised release.

Brown is being held in the U.S. Marshal’s custody until she can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Spirit Lake Police Department.
