(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday decided to look into the possibility of coming up with rules and regulations pertaining to the issuance of dock permits in the unincorporated areas of the county.
A number of cities around the Iowa Great Lakes already have such regulations in place, which are tacked onto permits issued by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
In deciding to pursue the regulations, several supervisors said it’s confusing to the general public as to which docks they can and cannot use. They say the ultimate goal of coming up with a policy is to clear that up.
A committee consisting of two supervisors, the County Engineer, and representatives of the County Conservation Board will be involved in the process.
In the meantime, the supervisors voted to implement a moratorium on the issuance of any further dock permits in unincorporated areas until a formal policy is in place.
