Land Trust Funding Request Draws Discussion Among Dickinson Co. Supervisors

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A request from the Lakes Community Land Trust for $25,000 in funding from Dickinson county’s current fiscal year budget drew concern at Tuesday’s board of supervisors meeting.

Supervisor Paul Johnson said the organization should have come forward with its request prior to when the county started putting together the current budget, like other organizations are required to do.

But supervisors Pam Jordan and Mardi Allen said this case is different because the funds being requested wouldn’t come out of the county’s General Fund, but instead would come out of a pool of money specifically identified for low to moderate income projects through revenue generated by tax increment financing.

A motion to approve the funding request passed with Bill Leopold and Allen voting in favor. Chairman David Gottsche voted no. Johnson abstained, along with Jordan, who is a member of the Lakes Community Land Trust’s board of directors.
