(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson county and Polaris Industries have reached an out-of-court settlement over a property tax appeal.
The company contested its slightly more than four million dollar 2010 property tax assessment in Dickinson County District Court, feeling it was excessive.
Assistant County Attorney Lonnie Saunders says once the suit was filed, the county contacted an independent appraisal firm. He says based on the findings of that firm, the county decided to negotiate a settlement, putting the revised valuation at slightly less than three million dollars, which Saunders says was about 10 percent more than what the appraiser put the property.
The board of supervisors, who were named as defendants in the case, voted unanimously Tuesday to accept the settlement.
It wasn’t immediately clear how the settlement will impact the county’s budget.
