(Estherville)– An Estherville man faces charges after leading officers on a pursuit this past Thursday afternoon.
Estherville police say it started when an officer observed a suspect operating a motor vehicle in the 300 block of North 16th Street that had a suspended driver’s license. The suspect accelerated rapidly and drove through a yard. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver kept going, running several stop signs and speeding. The suspect took officers on a pursuit that went north and west of Estherville to the area of 140th Street and Emmet County Road N22 on the Emmet/Dickinson county line. The suspect then attempted to turn west into Dickinson county. But deputies were able to use a special maneuver to turn the vehicle on the roadway. The suspect vehicle then went into the ditch. Officers were able to block the driver, who attempted to flee the scene. He was eventually taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Jarrod Bandow of Estherville, was arrested on three counts of reckless driving, seven stop sign violations, failure to prove security against liability, excessive speed, driving while license suspended, felony eluding or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, operation without owners consent, and possession of a controlled substance…marijuana…second offense.
Bandow was booked into the Emmet county jail on a $17,750 cash or surety bond.
An Estherville Police Department squad car sustained an estimated $5,400 in damage.
Estherville Police were assisted by the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement division.
