BMI Makes Inc. Magazine Top 5,000; Plans Local Expansion

(Spirit Lake)– Some prestigious honors for a Spirit Lake company.

Inc. Magazine has ranked Brown Medical Industries number 2,478 among the 5,000 of the nation’s fastest growing private companies.

It’s the third consecutive Brown Medical Industries has made the list.

BMI is listed among some very prominent names on the list, such as Ideeli, which tops the list, along with Spirit Airlines, television maker Vizio, Honest Tea, Dunkin Donuts and Metrokane, makers of the Rabbit corkscrew, among others.

BMI is sited for it’s three-year growth rate of 95 percent. From 2010 to 2011 alone, Brown Medical Industries experienced employment growth of 35 percent.

Brown Medical Industries is planning a 50,000 square foot expansion of manufacturing space and 12,000 square feet of office space over the next three years at its Spirit Lake operations. The city council Tuesday approved a three-year 100 percent tax abatement on the estimated three million dollar expansion project, which is expected to create 40 new manufacturing jobs and eight new office jobs.
