(Spirit Lake)– With no discussion, the Spirit Lake city council Tuesday voted four-to-one to delete an officer position on the Police Department that’s been vacant since the city instituted a hiring moratorium about two years ago. City officials say deleting the officer position will result in a savings of about $56,530.
The very next item on the agenda, consideration to remove the hiring moratorium, was approved unanimously with no discussion.
Previous attempts by the council to lift the moratorium failed repeatedly.
