(Cedar Rapids)– Bancroft and Sibley are among 25 Iowa communities that will receive more than $100,000 for tree planting projects.
The grants are through the Branching Out program which is made possible through Alliant Energy, Trees Forever and various community leaders. The program encourages energy efficiency, environmental awareness and community involvement. Alliant Energy provides funding for project grants to participating communities, and Trees Forever staff members provide project assistance and technical resources.
Locally, Bancroft will receive $700 and Sibley will receive $3,700.
Branching Out applications are accepted on an ongoing basis throughout the year, but are considered for funding in the spring and fall each year. The next application deadline is November 1st, 2011. Spring 2012 grant recipients will be annoucned in January.
