Arnolds Park To Host Down Syndrome Fundraiser

(Arnolds Park)– A fundraiser for the Northwest Iowa Down Syndrome Society will be held this Sunday at the Arnolds Park Amusement Park. The 6th annual “Buddy Walk” gets underway at 1:00 p.m. that afternoon with registration and a silent auction at the Roof Garden. The walk itself will start at 1:30 p.m. with an ice cream social to follow at the Nutty Bar Stand/ice cream shoppe.

Registration fee is $12 per person or $35 for a family. The fee includes a t-shirt.

In addition to the walk, the amusement park will be open Sunday from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. with a special excursion on the Queen Two at 3:00 p.m. Successful bidders in the silent auction will be announced at 4:30 p.m. in the r
Roof Garden.

Proceeds from the Buddy Walk are used to promote education and advocacy for those with Down Syndrome throughout northwest Iowa. The revenue also goes toward providing new parent information packets and resource materials for area hospitals. The money also goes toward a scholarship program to allow area families to attend the national convention each summer that’s sponsored by the National Down Syndrome.

This is the first time in its 6-year history the Buddy Walks has been held in Spirit Lake. Previous walks were held in Spencer, Storm Lake, Algona and Fort Dodge.
