(Wallingford)– Several large field fires were also reported Thursday in Emmet county.
The Wallingford Fire Department was called to one such blaze on 430th Avenue southeast of Wallingford. Authorities say a vehicle had apparently started on fire. The blaze, fanned by 40 mph wind, quickly spread to a nearby bean field, grove and grass. The Wallingford Fire Department was assisted by the Estherville and Graettinger Fire Departments, the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office and Emmet County Emergency Management.
Just as they had put out that blaze, Wallingford firefighters were called to a large fire on 260th Street southwest of Wallingford near the Emmet/Palo Alto county line. It’s believed that fire was started by a combine. Fire Departments from Estherville, Graettinger, Armstrong, Terril, Superior and Gruver assisted at that blaze. Wallingford Emergency Medical Services, the Graettinger ambulance, Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, Ememt County Emergency Management, Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Houseman Oil, Emmet County Secondary Road Crew and many area farmers also assisted.
