(Ames)– A local trails project has been awarded funding by the Iowa Transportation Commission.

The Dickinson County Trails Board was awarded $115,850 to revamp a portion of the Spine Trail between Henderson Woods and Highway 71 in Arnolds Park.

It was one 12 projects around the state awarded three million dollars in funding through the State Recreational Trails Program. The program was created in 1988 to develop and maintain recreational trails and trail-related facilities for both motorized and non-motorized trail users.

The funding is available to cities, counties, state agencies, local governments and non-profit organizations through an annual application-based program.
