(Emmetsburg)– Another new phone scam is making the rounds.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says it’s had reports from people getting calls from someone purporting to be with Wells Fargo Bank telling them their bank card has been locked. The caller is then told to enter the card number through their phone.
Officials say it’s another attempt by thieves to get at your bank account. The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says it checked with Wells Fargo, and they confirmed that it is, indeed, a scam, saying they’ve had many calls about it.
In some cases, those who have reported getting the calls don’t even have accounts with Wells Fargo.
Authorities say you should never give out account numbers or other personal information over the phone or internet. If you get such a call they say you should simply hang up and if necessary contact your bank or local law enforcement.
