(Spirit Lake)– Burning bans in Dickinson and many other counties in northwest Iowa remain in place. This, after forecasts for rain this past weekend fell apart, with most areas experiencing only sprinkles or nothing at all.
As of this (Monday) morning, burn bans remain in place in Buena Vista, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola, Plymouth and Sioux counties in northwest Iowa.
Burn bans and restrictions are also in effect for many counties in southwest Minnesota.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office issued a citation to a rural Spencer man over the weekend for allegedly violating that county’s burning ban. The citation was issued after deputies followed up on a complaint they had received regarding some open burning in the Royal area. The Royal Fire Department was called to put out the fire.
Violators of the burning ban are subject to a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine.
The ban is for ALL types of fires, including recreational ones.
