Emmet County Crash Seriously Injures Two People

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– A single-vehicle crash Saturday night on Highway 15 at the Iowa/Minnesota border seriously injured two people.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office says 35-year-old Damion Ellsworth of Fenton was driving a 2002 Ford pickup when the vehicle left the west side of the road. It then crossed the highway to the east where it overturned.

A passenger, 36-year-old Erin Carrigan of Algona, was located at the crash scene lying on the roadway. Carrigan was transported by medical helicopter from the scene to a Rochester, Minnesota hospital.

Ellsworth was trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed by firefighters. He was then taken by ambulance to the Fairmont hospital and was transferred by helicopter to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

Condition information on both Carrigan and Ellsworth wasn’t immediately available.

Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens says the crash, which was reported to authorities around 10:43 p.m. Saturday, remains under investigation.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Iowa State Patrol.
