Backhoe Mishap Claims Life Of Sibley Man

(Sibley)– An accident involving a backhoe has claimed the life of Sibley man.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says authorities were called shortly after 1:30 p.m. Friday to a location southeast of Harris where a man had been pinned by a backhoe.
Deputies say 39-year-old John Hibma of Sibley was working in a trench when he became trapped under the backhoe.

Hibma was transported to the Osceola Community Hospital where he later died of his injuries.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, the Osceola County Ambulance service, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
