Spencer Teen Escapes Serious Injury In Single-Vehicle Crash

(Spencer)– A Spencer teen escaped serious injury in a single-vehicle crash Friday on Highway 71 near Morton Buildings on the north edge of Spencer.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 16-year-old Shelby Meyer of Spencer was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee southbound on the inside lane of the highway when she lost control. The vehicle went into the west ditch where it rolled once, coming to rest on its top.

Meyer was transported to Spencer Hospital where she was held for observation, then released.

$8,000 in damage was estimated to the vehicle.

Meyer was cited for failure to maintain control.

The crash took place around 10:45 a.m.
