(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors isn’t getting involved in a drainage issue in the Francis Sites Area…atleast for now.
Torrential rains in July of this year caused significant property damage in that area. Property owners feel the county should be atleast partially responsible for fixing the problem since it maintains roads in that area. The Francis Sites Homeowners Association sent the county a letter requesting it do something about the problem.
At a meeting Tuesday, Assistant County Attorney Lonnie Saunders presented the board of supervisors with a letter stating that it’s his opinion that the association should be responsible for fixing the problem, not the county. He added that the county is willing to work with the association in coming up with “a comprehensive solution”.
County Engineer Dan Eckert told the supervisors it’s his opinion that the natural drainage in that area has been changed. He added that trying to design a system capable of handling massive amounts of rain that falls within a short time isn’t very practical.
