(Storm Lake)– A close call for a Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Deputy has resulted in the arrest of an Alta man.
Authorities say a deputy was investigating a disabled vehicle with small children in it Tuesday on Highway 7 west of Storm Lake. They say the deputy was standing next to his patrol car when a westbound vehicle driven by Martin Deras Castillo of Alta failed to slow down and move over. Authorities say the vehicle Deras Castillo was driving came within inches of striking the deputy, who had to jump out of the way to avoid being run over.
Deras Castillo was stopped and was arrested for failing to move over as required by state law and for failing to have a valid driver’s license. He was booked into the Buena Vista county jail on a $600 bond.
The deputy wasn’t injured.
