(Spirit Lake)– Mild temperatures over the weekend and already-thin ice has authorities urging people to stay off area lakes, rivers and ponds until conditions improve.
Conservation Officer Jeff Morrison says he’s been seeing some die-hard ice fisherman wandering out onto the ice recently. He’s urging them to use extreme caution if they feel they must go out. Morrison says ice thickness is extremely variable right now…Click here for sound bite
An in the worse case scenario, Morrison says if you do witness someone falling through the ice, you should call 911 as soon as possible…Click here for sound bite
Morrison recommends anyone venturing out on the ice to wear some type of floatation gear.
