(Spencer)– Authorities are becoming increasingly concerned over the increasing presence of synthetic marijuana among area youth. It’s often referred to as spice, herbs, bath salts or K-2.
Police in Spencer have charged a 17-year-old male accused of furnishing the substance to atleast two other juveniles who smoke it and got sick. They had to be taken to the Emergency Room at Spencer Hospital for treatment.
The suspect was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. The juvenile was released to the custody of his parents.
Police Chief Mark Lawson says the case remains under investigation.
What’s most disturbing, though, is how dangerous the stuff is and how easily available it is. Officials say the effects are similar to that of marijuana, but can differ widely from person-to-person, and have even been known to result in death in some instances.
