(Spirit Lake)– December snow hasn’t been a given in Iowa, which explains the dry streets and brown lawns instead of slushy roads and broad expanses of white yards.
State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says recent Decembers have been unusually cold and snowy.
So far, only about four inches of snow has fallen for the entire season in the Iowa Great Lakes. That compares with some 23 inches that had fallen up to this date a year ago.
