Former ILCC President Passes Away

November 22, 2014

(Seward, Neb.)– Richard H. Blacker, long-time employee and former President of Iowa Lakes Community College, passed away December 24th following a battle with cancer.

Blacker was Director of Vocational Education at Iowa Lakes Community College from 1966 to 1971, when he became college President. He held that position until he retired in 1993.

Colleagues remember him as a great leader who helped to grow and improve the college.

Current Iowa Lakes Community College President Val Newhouse says the statewide community college system was still in its infancy during Blacker’s tenure, having only been established a few years earlier. She adds numerous programs were initiated and many facilities were built at Iowa Lakes under Blacker’s leadership.

A funeral service for Blacker will be held Saturday, January 7th at 2:00 p.m. at the Zabka Funeral Home in Seward, Nebraska.
