(Spirit Lake)– Those working to get a “Blue Zone” designation for the city of Spirit Lake say there are a number of other advantages the community would realize in addition to a signficant financial reward it would bring.
Among the advantages, they say, is economic vitality due to less absenteeism, lowered healthcare costs and improved productivity. They say that’s already been proven in communities that have the Blue Zone designation.
Another is improved health and lower healthcare costs.
They say it also results in increased happiness when it comes psychological well-being, and increased longevity as Blue Zones Communities have the highest number of centenarians than any other places.
Spirit Lake’s application to become a Blue Zone Community was submitted two weeks ago. The next step in the process is a site visit. Only 12 of the remaining 54 communities will be selected for a visit. Those 12 cities will be announced February 10th.
