Former Superintendent Turns Himself In On Theft Charge

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– The former Superintendent of the Clay Central-Everly Community School District turned himself in today (Fri.) to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

49-year-old Monte Montgomery was wanted on a charge of first degree theft…a class “C” felony. It stems from a joint investigation by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

The investigation revealed that between July 1st, 2005 and November 30th, 2010, $47,802.71 in funds were misappropriated from the Clay Central-Everly School District. The investigation alleged that Montgomery used a school credit card to make improper disbursements.

The charge was filed Wednesday in Clay County District Court by the County Attorney’s Office.

Montgomery was released from jail without posting bond, pending a future court appearance.
