(Spirit Lake)– A public hearing on a water main project on the city’s southeast side drew no comment at Tuesday’s Spirit Lake city council meeting. Following the hearing, the council awarded a bid on the project to Beck Excavating of Spirit Lake, which came in about $30,000 below the engineer’s estimate.
In other business, the council approved reserved parking spaces and sidewalk sales stand permits for the Chamber of Commerce’s annual Cruise In June 23rd and street closures and the use of Isthmus Park for Spirit Lake Days July 14th.
The council reviewed bids for mowing Little League Park in the upcoming spring and summer, but deferred action for further study.
There was also discussion once again regarding the green space in the Southern Hills area and whether or not the city should continue to maintain it or if it should be turned over to neighboring property owners. Public Works Director Dwight Dohlman told the council 5 of the 17 property owners in that area responded to a city inquiry and that four of the five were opposed to the mowing being turned over to them. Several property owners had expressed concern over how the city had been mowing the green space area.
The council also Tuesday reviewed the city’s five-year capital improvement plan.
