Exact Cause Of Massive Internet Disruption Remains Unknown

(Spencer)– Officials aren’t saying exactly who or what’s to blame for a substantial internet outage that affected a number of local communities earlier today (Fri.).

A news release issued late this (Fri.) afternoon by Iowa Network Services says its technicians provided assistance to local providers and that service was restored shortly after 11:00 this (Fri.) morning. The release quotes Leon Hofer, INS Vice President of Network Operations, as saying they were quote…”working with local communications partners to determine the exact cause of the outage and ensuring all systems are stable”…unquote.

The outage started shortly after midnight, as scheduled routine maintenance of a fiber optics ring was to get underway. The ring connects local service providers to the INS Network. The outage affected Spencer, Algona, Terril, Graettinger, Ringsted, Lone Rock, West Bend, Plover, Ayrshire, Royal, Titonka, Burt, Milford and Estherville.
