Irish Dignitary Presides Over E’Burg St. Patrick’s Events

(Emmetsburg)– There’s a lot of the wearin’ of the green in Emmetsburg these days, northwest Iowa’s self-proclaimed Irish capital.

Overseeing the various St. Patrick’s Day events in Emmetsburg is Morris Cummings of Waterford, Ireland, which is in the southeastern part of the country. Cummings is the leader of the Irish Senate. He says he’s excited to play a key part in the weekend’s festivities and that he’s very impressed by the people of Iowa and what he and his wife have experienced since they arrived here Thursday…Click here for comment from Morris Cummings

Cummings says there are a lot of similarities between the U.S. and his native Ireland, adding that country is still going through some pretty significant economic challenges…Click here for comment from Morris Cummings

Cummings added he’s very impressed over the intense agricultural practices in Iowa and that he’s looking forward to learning more about it, including the ethanol industry.

One of the highlights of the weekend, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, starts at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Emmetsburg.
