Derailment Clean-up Continues

November 22, 2014

(Brewster, Mn.)– Crews continue to clean-up after 23 cars of a Union Pacific freight train derailed near Brewster Monday evening.

The railroad says the cars were part of a 118-car train traveling from St. Paul to North Platte, Nebraska. The 23 cars split from the track around 8:30 p.m. No one was hurt.

The railroad says an empty refrigerated boxcar had a diesel fuel leak, but no hazardous materials were involved.

Dozens of Union Pacific workers were on the scene Tuesday morning, working to remove the damaged cars and clean up the area.

The derailment damaged about 1,000 feet of track. It’s not known when it will reopen.

The cause is still under investigation.
