(Sibley)– A Spencer police officer is announcing his candidacy for Osceola County Sheriff. Matt Block announced today (Fri.) he’s running for the Republican nomination for the seat.
Block is a 1998 graduate of Sibley-Ocheyedan High School. He went to work as a jailer in O’Brien county in 2001. In 2002 he became a patrolman with the Sanborn Police Deparment, and in January 2004 Block graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. He joined the Spencer Police Department in 2005 where he’s worked ever since.
Block and his wife Crystal have been married 13 years.
Block says he would put himself into the patrol rotation if elected in an effort to reduce overtime costs. And he says he would look into the possibility of doing away with 24-hour patrols, but instead having an officer on call during off-hours.
Block will square off against Republican incumbent Doug Weber in the June 5th primary.
