Sioux County Crash Claims A Life

(Orange City)– A two-vehicle collision around 6:00 this (Fri.) morning in Sioux county claimed the life of a Sioux Center man.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 35-year-old Antonio Martinez-Salazar of Sioux Center was driving a 1993 Ford Explorer westbound on a county road when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 71-year-old Bruce Verhoef of Sioux Center.

Salazar was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sioux County Medical Examiner. Verhoef and a passenger in his vehicle, 77-year-old Marvin Boone of Sioux Center, were taken by ambulance to the Sioux Center Hospital. There was no immediate information on their condition or extent of injuries.

$4,000 in damage was estimated to the Ford Explorer driven by Salazar; the Chevrolet Tahoe Verhoef was driving sustained an estimated $12,000 in damage.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, the Orange City Police Department, the Orange City Fire Department and the Orange City Ambulance.
