(Orange City)– A Sutherland man escaped injury when a semi tractor-trailer he was driving rolled onto its side.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 29-year-old Paul Hibbing of Sutherland was driving a 1987 Peterbuilt Semi pulling a 2009 Wilson livestock trailer loaded with hogs. Deputies say Hibbing was eastbound on a county road and was attempting to turn south when the trailer went into the west ditch, causing it and the tractor to roll onto its side.
50 of the 185 hogs in the trailer were killed, with a loss of some $9,500. The semi tractor sustained an estimated $25,000 in damage and the trailer about $12,000.
Hibbing was cited for failure to maintain control.
The incident took place around 5:45 a.m. four miles northeast of Hull.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Hull Fire Department.
