(Spirit Lake)– Here’s another sign of spring: road construction.
The Iowa Department of Transportation says its construction season is off to an early start thanks to the recent warm weather.
Depending on the remaining outcomes of bid lettings through June, Iowa D.O.T officials say the agency will have let out to bid more than $700 million in primary system construction work during the 2012 fiscal year. Projects are or will be underway in every part of the state, as well as many county, city and utility projects.
A significant project in our area this summer will involve the reconstruction of the northbound lanes of Highway 71 between Milford and Spencer. D.O.T officials say traffic will be maintained in a two-lane, two-way operation in the existing southbound lanes. As a result, motorists traveling in that area can expect delays.
