(Spencer)– Charges have been filed against a father and son in connection with a crash Saturday in Clay county.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to the intersection of 330th Street and County Road N18 after getting a report of a vehicle in the ditch at that location. Upon arrival, deputies found 52-year-old Brad Smith of Terril in the process of pulling his 2001 Ford F250 truck out of the ditch. He told a deputy he fell asleep and drove the truck into the ditch.
Upon further investigation, deputies learned the driver of the truck was actually Smith’s son, 17-year-old Ryan Smith of Terril.
Both Brad and Ryan Smith were taken into custody. Brad Smith was charged with perjury for giving false information at the scene of a personal injury accident…a class “D” felony. He was released from jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
Ryan Smith was charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident, driving while revoked and failure to maintain control. He was taken to the Youth Emergency Services Center in Cherokee.
The pickup was totaled.
