(Spencer)– Spencer Municipal Utilities is receiving some special recognition for its contribution to the local economy.
SMU was recently selected by the Iowa Area Development Group as this year’s winner of an Impact Award for development of the Green Industrial Center in Spencer. The facility will incorporate environmentally friendly components in the infrastructure and landscaping and encourage construction of energy-efficient buildings. The complex is served by rail, has a 40,000 square foot speculative building, fiber, and state-of-the-art telecommunications capabilities.
SMU is one of six member electric utilities systems of Corn Belt Power Cooperative that were recognized at its annual meeting for their economic development accomplishments and commitment to local communities.
