(Spirit Lake)– The Iowa Great Lakes once again dodged a bullet as another round of severe weather made its way through the region Friday afternoon.
While there were reports of damaging wind in many areas, other than some minor sticks and small branches being knocked down, the Iowa Great Lakes escaped the brunt of the 70 mph plus winds that blew through some parts of the region, including Spencer. Considerable tree and structural damage was reported there. A peak gust of 51 mph was registered at the KUOO studios.
Tornado touchdowns were reported by law enforcement in Nobles county, near the Worthington airport; and in Jackson county…one about seven miles west of Lakefield near Interstate 90, another about two miles south of Lakefield near the I-90 Highway 86 interchange. The touchdowns were brief and were in open areas.
