(Spirit Lake)– There’s yet another scam making the rounds you need to be aware of. This one involves someone purporting to be with your utility provider. The caller tells the customer his or her account is delinquent and that their service will be shut off immediately if it isn’t paid. Scott Drzymcimski of Alliant Energy tells KUOO news they’ve had reports from some of their customers getting such calls…(click here to hear comment.).
Drzycimski says utilities must follow a very detailed process dictated by the state’s Public Utilities Commission before disconnecting anyone’s service for non-payment…(click here to hear comment.).
Anyone with customer account questions should contact their respective provider, or in the case of Alliant Energy, call 1-800-ALLIANT. Bill payment options for Alliant customers can be found at www.alliantenergy.com/paymybill.
