(Des Moines)– Emmetsburg is one of seven Iowa communities awarded a total of $3.5 million in Community Development Block Grants to assist in the rehabilitation of buildings in its downtown area.
The grant awards were announced today (Thurs.) by the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
To date, the CDBG program has supported 19 community revitalization projects around the state.
The grants are awarded based on the potential impact of the project, the project being part of a comprehensive downtown revitalization strategy, commitment of local resources and the ability to demonstrate revitalization will continue to move forward to project completion.
The Community Development Block Grant program is federally-funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
