SL Hall Of Achievement Induction Ceremony Set For June 3rd

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake Education Hall of Achievement holds its 6th induction ceremony this coming Sunday, June 3rd at the Sami Center. A reception will follow.

This year’s inductees as exceptional educators include Glea and Twyla Lloyd. Glea was maintenance director and Twyla was director of the school’s lunch program from 1967 through 1985.

Other inductees as exceptional educators include Jerry Ingvall, 6th grade science and math instructor from 1963 to 1997; and Dick Nervig, Junior High Counselor, Junior High Principal and Elementary Principal from 1978 to 1995.

Bill Northey, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, will be inducted as an Outstanding Graduate.

Recognition will also be given to some longtime staff members, including Kim Miller for 25 years of service; Rick Wiersma, 30 years and Peg Rick 40 years.

Educators that received special honors over the past year will also be recognized, including Jody Ingwerson who received the Martin L. Crandall Award and Josh Bolluyt who was named Iowa Coaches Association 2A Regional Coach of the Year.

Recognition will also be given to the 2011-2012 National Honor Society students.

The 1957-’58 High School Debate Team will be honored in the “Great Moments in School History” division for winning the state championship back-to-back those two years. Ed Purdy of Spirit Lake was a member of that team.
