(Spirit Lake)– Tuesday’s (6/5) primary election is drawing attention locally on the republican side.
Three contested races are on the ballot. One will decide whether or not Dickinson county will get a new Sheriff. Longtime incumbent Greg Baloun faces a challenge from fellow Republican Gary Owen, a long time DNR enforcement officer who retired last year. No one filed on the Democratic ticket, meaning whoever wins the primary will more than likely go on to win the seat in November.
In races for the Iowa House, Republicans Jeff Smith of Okoboji and Kevin Wolfswinkel of Sibley are vying for the seat representing the new District 1. For District 2, Republicans Megan Hess and Josh Davenport both of Spencer are squaring off to see who will run against Democratic challenger Steve Bomgaars in the November General Election.
Polls Tuesday (6/5) will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.
