(Milford)– A storefront renovation project in downtown Milford is about to get another boost.
The city council Monday voted to authorize city staff and the City Attorney to start the process of purchasing the former Gressley Shoe Repair building on Okoboji Avenue.
Mick Noteboom, a member of the city’s Downtown Storefront Rehabilitation Committee, requested the city purchase the building for $10,000 and then have it demolished. He says the committee would like to see the open space that would be created turned into a green space, or walk through to an alley and parking area east of Okoboji Avenue. The cost of demolishing the building was put at $18,000.
An environmental assessment of the building will be done prior to any purchase agreement being finalized by the city.
