Iowa Pharmacy Association Recognizes Three Locally

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)– The Iowa Pharmacy Association is recognizing three individuals from our area for some special accomplishments.

Jacob Shell, a Spirit Lake High School graduate who’s pursuing his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, has been awarded the Association’s Karbeling Leadership Award, which recognizes a student from each of Iowa’s two colleges of pharmacy for their individual leadership and involvement in professional organizations and the political process.

Mallory Breuker of Harris was awarded an internship program through the IPA’s Max W. Eggleston Executive Internship in Association Management. Mallory is a 2009 graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in food science and human nutrition. She has since decided to pursue a career in Pharmacy and is now attending pharmacy school at the University of Iowa.

And Gayle Mayer of Spirit Lake was named the IPA’s 2012 Health-System Pharmacist of The Year. The award is based on service to the profession of pharmacy, specifically hospital pharmacy; contributions to pharmacy programs; cooperation with healthcare teams and service to the community. Mayer is a pharmacist at Spencer Hospital. She had lead efforts to establish a Pharmacy Technician program at Iowa Lakes Community College and is co-director of the program.
