(Spirit Lake)– The USDA’s Farm Service Agency announced today (Thursday) Dickinson and several surrounding counties are eligible for assistance due to hail, excessive rain and high wind that occurred June 14th of this year.
Physical loss loans are being made available to farmers in the primary counties of Dickinson and Emmet, along with producers in five contiguous counties including Clay, Kossuth, O’Brien, Osceola and Palo Alto.
The FSA will make emergency loans available to eligible family farmers in those counties to be used for repair or replacement of damaged or destroyed physical property, including livestock losses, essential to the success of the farming operation.
Applicants must be unable to obtain credit from other usual sources to qualify for the assistance. The interest rate of the loan is 3.25 percent. Repayment is based on the useful life of the security, the applicant’s ability to repay and type of loss. Application deadline is March 4th, 2013.
Interested farmers should contact their local FSA office for more information and application procedures, or go to www.fsa.usda.gov.
