Crash On North Edge Of Milford Results In Minor Injuries, Sends Driver To Jail

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– A Spirit Lake man sustained minor injuries and faces charges in connection with a single-vehicle crash that took place around midnight Saturday on Highway 71 on the north edge of Milford.

Milford police say 27-year-old Berkley Suen Bedell of Spirit Lake was driving a 2008 Subaru Outback near Boulder’s Inn when he lost control of the vehicle.

Upon arriving on the scene, officers with the Milford and Arnolds Park Police Departments couldn’t locate Bedell. The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, Sasha, was then called for assistance. Authorities eventually found Bedell in a tree line west of the crash scene. He was taken into custody on charges of operating while intoxicated and failure to maintain control.

The vehicle was totaled.

Bedell sustained minor injuries but refused treatment on the scene.

Milford police were assisted by the Arnolds Park Police Department, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and its K-9 Unit, the Iowa State Patrol, Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance and the Dickinson County Communications Center.
