Dickinson County Supervisors Review Proposed Burning Ordinance

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors today (Tues.) took no action on a proposed ordinance that would regulate, not ban, open burning in the county.

Mike Ehret, the county’s Emergency Management Coordinator, and several of the county’s Fire Chiefs, presented the proposed ordinance. Ehret says it stems from a burning ban the county implemented last fall and a large grass fire that occurred Christmas day…(click here for comment from Ehret.)

Ehret says the intent of the proposed ordinance is to hold whoever lights the fire responsible for it…(click here for comment from Ehret.)

Ehret says another goal of the proposed ordinance is to limit the time any full-blown ban on open burning would need to be in place…(click here for comment from Ehret.)

The supervisors recommended Ehret and the chiefs present the proposal to the Dickinson County Farm Bureau for its input, before bringing it back to them for a first reading.
