(Undated)– It was a day of tragedy Tuesday in Dickinson county as two people lost their lives: one in a drowning on West Lake Okoboji; the other in a car/motorcycle collision east of Milford.
As of this (Wed.) morning, details into the drowning were still very sketchy. The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement stating that additional information would be released later this (Wed.) morning, once the victim’s family had been notified. Authorities say they were called to the scene just after noon Tuesday.
The fatal collision took place shortly before noon Tuesday on County Road A-34 two miles east of Milford.
The Sheriff’s Office says 29-year-old Mitchell Jesperson of Graettinger was driving a 1997 Kawasaki Ninja westbound and Susan Klassen of Arnolds Park was driving a 2011 Chevy Equinox eastbound. Authorities say Klassen was attempting to make a left-turn when she turned into the path of the motorcycle driven by Jesperson.
Jesperson was pronounced dead at the scene; Klassen was transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare with minor injuries.
Damage to the car driven by Klassen was estimated at $20,000; the motorcycle was totaled.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Milford, Arnolds Park and Okoboji Police Departments, the Iowa State Patrol, Milford Fire and Rescue and the Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance and paramedics.
